Weezer are an American rock band formed in 1992. Worldwide the band have sold a massive 17,525,000 albums, consisting of ‘Weezer’, ‘Pinkerton’, ‘Weezer’ (again), ‘Maladroit’, ‘Make Believe’, ‘Weezer’ (for a third time), ‘Raditude’ and ‘Hurley’. Weezer initially gained success through their signing to Geffen Records and their hit song/video to ‘Buddy Holly’, based upon the TV show Happy Days. Weezer now add to their catalogue with the new album ‘Everything Will Be Alright In The End’.
Whether it be a good thing or not (i see it as a good thing) when you listen to a new Weezer album you know what your going to get before you’ve even pressed play, and this album doesn’t disappoint. Weezer consistently bring the same vocal style, similar progressions and song layout, but when the songs are as catchy and sound as good as Weezers always do then why change, they’ve found their formula and stuck to it. In reference to the point i am making songs such as ‘Lonely Girl’ and ‘Back To The Shack’ follow that usual Weezer style, incorporating tight backing vocals and the ‘Buddy Holly’ rhythm. Then again the band stray a couple of time from this formula to create something a little different in sound, for instance ‘I’ve Had It Up To Here’ which has a slightly more pop sound showcasing the lead singers range. Throughout the album there is also some fantastic guitar work, within the rhythm and lead section, incorporating solos and riffs that personally made me what to check out the score straight away to get learning them.
This album is another in a line of great Weezer albums, including catchy songs, interesting lyrics and some fantastic artwork. I would highly recommend this album to a fan of the band, but maybe not someone who is uninterested in Weezer, as it’s a little bit of the same thing.
